Property scams are common in Pakistan. Knowing the warning signs can save you from serious financial loss.
Price That Seems Too Good to Be True
If a property is priced significantly below similar ones nearby, be suspicious. Scammers use attractive prices to generate quick interest. Always compare with at least five similar listings before proceeding.
Vague or Copied Photos
Fake ads use stolen photos. Watch for watermarks cropped out, the same photos on multiple listings, or no photos at all. Do a reverse image search on any suspicious photos — if they appear on other sites with different addresses, the ad is fake.
Seller Cannot Meet In Person
A genuine seller can arrange a viewing. Common scammer excuses: being abroad, unwell, or too busy. Any seller who wants money before you have physically visited the property is committing fraud.
Pressure to Pay Quickly
Scammers create urgency with phrases like "three others are interested" or "this offer expires today". A genuine seller does not need to rush you. Anyone who objects to you taking your time is not trustworthy.
No Original Documents
For any property transaction, original documents are essential. If a seller cannot produce original ownership documents or registry — walk away immediately.
The Simple Rule
Never pay anything — token, advance, or deposit — before physically visiting the property and verifying the seller's identity and ownership documents. Every legitimate property transaction follows: visit first, verify documents, then pay.
